Cobalto Calcite, also known as Sphaerocobaltite, is a captivating gemstone. Its enchanting pink hue and unique crystal structure have entranced collectors and healers alike.
The term “Cobalto Calcite” refers to the cobalt content that gives this particular type of calcite its distinctive pink color. The gemstone usually exhibits a botryoidal (grape-like) crystal habit, with shiny small spheres gathered together. It can also form as rhombohedral crystals, yet this is less common.
Its lustre is vitreous, and it’s typically translucent to opaque. Cobalto Calcite is relatively rare, found primarily in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It’s also been reported in localities in Morocco and Europe, although these occurrences are less common.
